National Australia Bank customers have suffered through three system outages in a week. Thousands of NAB customers have taken to social media to vent their anger at the bank's failures this week. NAB has not revealed the source of the problem that left customers without online access to their accounts or access to their cash through Eftpos payment terminals or ATMs. A National Australia Bank spokesperson confirmed that customers did not have access to online banking on Tuesday, the third time in less than a week. "Our teams are working hard to monitor our services and ensure the stability of systems," said the spokesperson. "A thorough review of the issues is underway."
National Australia Bank accounts are back online
Late on Tuesday, 11 October, National Australia Bank announced on social media that all systems and customer accounts are now back online. NAB's public relations team worked hard to respond personally to most of the flood of angry questions and comments to the NAB Facebook page and Twitter accounts. Many customers called for the bank to send them a SMS message if the system was down. Others said they were now looking for an alternative bank.
Looking for an alternative bank account
National Australia Bank's everyday transaction account is the NAB Classic Banking account which features no monthly account keeping fees. NAB was the first big bank to offer fee-free everyday banking for all customers. NAB customers can also access their cash for free through the NAB and RediATM networks, one of Australia's largest fleets of ATMs. People looking for an alternative everyday banking account need to consider what features and services they value in a bank account.

UBank is owned by NAB and customers can access the same NAB and RediATM network for free. Credit Union Australia's Everyday Account is also free of monthly fees and uses the RediATM network. Westpac's Basic everyday transaction account has no monthly fees. As a big bank, Westpac customers also get access to hundreds of branches around Australia.
